why the mangrove brand
Why we chose "The Mangrove" name
It came from an initial observation of one particular tree in Fiji, which later grew into an awareness of the wider qualities of this natural eco-system, and eventually became a fascination in how resilient, durable, nurturing, sustainable, robust, adaptable and opportunistic the mangrove seed, plant or group of trees could be.
Mangroves protect the land from soil erosion and the effects of storms. They also act as a form of pollution control, naturally filtering out industrial and human waste.
Mangroves serve important functions - providing food, nesting and nursery areas for many animals, fish species, reptiles, amphibians, mammals and birds. Its dead leaves and twigs in the water grow micro-organisms that provides food for young marine animals.
In harsh environments mangroves have evolved a special mechanism to help their offspring survive. The buoyant nature of mangrove seeds means they can be dispersed in water. The seeds can survive waterlessness and remain dormant for weeks, months or even years, floating along before finding a suitable environment. Once ready to root, the seed will change its density so that its elongated shape floats vertically rather than horizontally. In this position, it is more likely to become lodged in the mud and root. If it does not root, it can alter its density so that it floats off again in search of more favourable conditions. Once rooted, mangroves retain their sustainable and adaptive characteristics - adjusting their root systems to survive in any environment, whether nutrient rich or nutrient poor.
We see the journey of the mangrove seed as mirroring our own personal journeys. Everyone has an innate tendency towards growth, wholeness and productivity. Sometimes all we need is the right conditions to thrive and reveal our true potential.
We believe the Mangrove's retreat and development offerings will provide you with nutrients for your own development. The Mangrove offers a supportive environment, where you can feel secure and energetic in exploring new possibilities, be flexible and open to challenge, and seek new opportunities to learn and grow.
